I love Doris!
Doris Matthäus was the first illustrator of German games to receive international recognition. When she is not designing games with her husband Frank Nestel (D&F Games) she works freelance illustrating games from numerous other companies.

I particularly adore her cute graphics in Ursuppe, Igel Ärgern and Zoff im Zoo, but I also like the beautiful artwork in games like Fugger, Welser, Medici and Euphrat & Tigris.

Not being artistic myself, I toyed for a long time with the idea of having someone else designing a logo for me, and at Spiel ´98 I told Doris that I would commision her to do a drawing for me. Knowing that she had been part of every game awarded that year I wasn't surprised when she told me that she didn't have time - "but maybe later".

I met her again at The Gathering of Friends in spring ´99, but decided that I wouldn't spoil her enjoyment by 'talking business' when she approached me and said that she hadn't forgotten my request - and a few months later I received the most wonderful gift of not only one but two wonderful drawings!

Clearly showing my age, I have named the two cute fellers after a popular TV-series from my childhood: »Maverick« (1957-61) starring James Garner and Roger Moore as Bret and Beau Maverick.
